Vietnamese Socialism: Its Past and Future Prospects

This article serves as a review to the article “Theoretical and Practical Issues on the pathway to socialism in Vietnam” written by Prof. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee on 23 May 2021.

Professor Nguyen Phu Trong’s writing is the growth document of Vietnam till today and the framework for further accomplishments. In fact, Vietnamese socialism is not purely based on Marxism-Leninism. President Ho Chi Minh Vietnamised it and followed the principles as per the local situation of Vietnam. From this perspective, Vietnam is a great example of the implementation of socialism. No doubt, it failed in many Eastern European Countries but in Vietnam socialism did work as it was implemented as per their local situation, circumstances, problems, facilities and ideologies.

No doubt, capitalism has a greater value in many parts of the globe. In fact, it has instant results, but not for all, only a small section of the people are getting benefitted by it. It is enhancing the gap between the rich and the poor. But socialism takes the whole community and society together with in its journey. Money is essential, but values make life enjoyable. When money speaks louder than values, man gets accessories to make life comfortable, but lacks peace of mind, love and healthy relationship.

Vietnamese socialism is people oriented, it aims at all round development of the people.  The initial journey of socialism may be full of hardships, but it’s result is very much progressive and people oriented. Vietnam’s plan for future formation is based on Ho Chi Minh’s ideology and the localisation of Marxism-Leninism. Culture, tradition, values, development and economy, everything have been taken altogether.

Ho Chi Minh’s socialism aimed at providing every single country men food, clothes, shelter, education and  health facility. For him independence without the hapiness and freedom of his people was meaningless. He attached national liberation with class, social and human liberation. He was a model example of man of words and deeds and set a perfect practical example for people to follow. His ideas and ideals will never let the comrades of the CPV degrade their thought and moral.

Vietnam’s history is full of struggle. Vietnamese know how to face the hardship, they are disciplined and adherent to rules. They quickly accept new rules and laws implemented by the government, and the government has never imposed rules on its people rather it has motivated them to accept it. Vietnamese people successfully won over Covid 19 virus in 2020 and though 2021 is a bit challenging, but they will overcome it by their strong will power and adherence to follow the rules.

Vietnamese socialism is a guide line for party building and rectification. It has given priority to make happy and progressive families, gender equality, environmental protection,  sustainable development, balance between community interest and interest of the people. The culture that Vietnam is developing is rich and progressive for national identity as it takes the people in its heart.
