At the invitation of Nepal’s Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun, Vietnamese Ambassador to India, concurrently Nepal and Bhutan, Nguyen Thanh Hai attended the third Nepal Investment Summit held in Kathmandu, Nepal from April 28 to April 29, 2024. On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai paid a courtesy visit to Vice President of Nepal Ram Sahaya Yadav, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, worked with the Vietnam – Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VNCCI), meet the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Nepal.

During meetings with the Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Nepal on April 29, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai conveyed the greetings of Vietnamese leaders to Nepali leaders, at the same time, he expressed his joy at the developments in bilateral relations between the two countries. The Ambassador emphasized his desire and shared measures to further promote the harmonious traditional relationship between Viet Nam and India, especially increasing the exchange of high-level delegations at all levels, promoting trade and tourism cooperation, invest, and strengthening coordination at regional and international forums. The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Nepal. Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai expressed his wish that the two sides actively coordinate preparations for this important anniversary. Previously, in a meeting with the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai asked the Chief Minister to pay attention and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese people to make pilgrimages to the sacred Buddha land in the province.

At the meeting, Vice President of Nepal Ram Sahaya Yadav and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal Narayan Kaji Shrestha highly appreciated the Đổi Mới reforms, experience in developing a socialist-oriented market economy, and the achievements of the socio-economic development achievements of Vietnam. Appreciating Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai’s participation in the third Investment Summit in Nepal, Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav hoped the Ambassador will be a bridge for Vietnamese businesses to invest in Nepal, especially in fields of hydropower, renewable energy, tourism, and agriculture sectors. At the same time, he hoped that the Vietnamese side would soon open a direct flight between the two countries, thereby contributing to promoting tourism and bilateral trade and investment cooperation. The Vice President also appreciated the role of the Vietnam – Nepal Friendship Association and the Vietnam – Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting people-to-people exchanges, parliamentary diplomacy, and friendly relations between the two countries.

At the reception at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha affirmed that the Nepal government welcomed Vietnamese businesses to invest in this country. He emphasized that the traditional and friendly cooperation between the two countries over many decades and the connection to Buddhism were a solid foundation and favorable conditions to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming time. The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal also agreed to promote the implementation of the Political Consultation mechanism between the two countries and delegation exchange activities at all levels, as well as hoped the two sides will soon sign the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). He affirmed that Nepal will coordinate closely with Vietnam to actively prepare for the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.
Working with the Vietnam – Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VNCCI), Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai introduced Vietnam’s economic developments and the potential for cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador hoped Nepali businesses would visit, learn about the market, and attend fairs in Vietnam. VNCCI members expressed their wish for the Ambassador to support the VNCCI delegation to visit Vietnam in 2024 and help connect with Vietnamese businesses. Mr. Deepark, president of VNCCI, also expressed his willingness to support the implementation of activities to promote Vietnam in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu.

While working in the Kathmandu Capital, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai attend a meeting with the Vietnamese community in Nepal. People excitedly said that about 150 Vietnamese people are living and studying scattered in localities of Nepal. These family now even have the third generation, so in general, this community is stable, united, and wiliing helping each other at the moment. The Ambassador informed people about the country’s development situation and Vietnam-Nepal relations, affirming that Vietnamese people in Nepal are an integral part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community. The Ambassador encouraged people to preserve Vietnamese, look towards their homeland, regularly contact and help each other, and soon establish a Vietnamese Association in Nepal. The Ambassador affirmed that the Embassy is always by your side and responds quickly to people in consular matters; and supports people to stabilize their lives, integrate, and develop in the local area./.
