Viet Nam’s capital city of Hanoi has topped the list of the “Best Food Destination 2024″ as voted by readers of the world’s largest travel guidance platform, TripAdvisor. Along with plenty of sightseeing spots, the capital is also known for its rich and diverse culinary culture.
Visitors to Hanoi should not miss the chance to taste some of its famous dishes, such as pho (beef noodles soup), bun cha (grilled pork with vermicelli noodles), and banh mi (Vietnamese baguette). In addition, Hanoi offers other famous dishes such as banh cuon (rolled rice pancake), ca phe trung (egg coffee), cha ca la vong (fish with dill and turmeric), bun dau mam tom (vermicelli with fried tofu and shrimp paste), bun oc and bun rieu (snail and crab noodle soup).
As part of its efforts to promote culinary tourism, Hanoi has also developed various specialized routes for culinary tourism, such as the Tong Duy Tan Food Street in Hoan Kiem District, the Night Food Street, and Dao Ngoc – Ngu Xa Walking Street in Ba Dinh District.
Although Vietnam is most well-known for its non-veg dishes, vegetarians need not fret! There are plenty of delicious vegetarian options offering a variety of textures and tastes, from protein-rich bean curd dishes like “dau phu sot ca chua” (tomato braised tofu) to refreshing salads like “goi cuon chay” (vegetarian spring rolls).
The Embassy’s short series “A Journey of Flavours” provides a quick look into Hanoian cuisine, including vegetarian options and less-known foods. You can find the series on our Instagram account, @vietnamembassydelhi and save them for your next trip to Viet Nam!
TripAdvisor also recommends several restaurants in Hanoi worth trying, including Bun Cha Huong Lien, Giang Café, Cha ca Thang Long (you can find our review here), and Trang Tien Ice Cream. Hanoi also boasts three Michelin-starred restaurants: Gia, Hibana by Koki, and Tam Vi.
The Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best 2024 is an annual award presented by TripAdvisor to destinations that have received highly positive reviews and opinions from the global traveler community over the past 12 months. Less than 1% of the eight million destinations listed on TripAdvisor receive the Best of the Best award, indicating an exceptionally high level of excellence in the travel industry.
This achievement means that Vietnamese cuisine is making its mark on the global culinary scene. It represents a significant opportunity to attract tourists to Hanoi, both domestic and international.
