On January 19, 2025, the Embassy of Viet Nam in India joyfully organized the Community Tet – Homeland Spring event to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025. The event, held at the Chancery, brought together approximately 150 Vietnamese nationals studying, living, and working in India, along with all Embassy staff and their families.

In his speech, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai warmly shared Viet Nam’s remarkable socio-economic development achievements in 2024 and highlighted new strides in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and India. Despite global and regional challenges, Viet Nam, with the solidarity of the entire nation, including over 6 million overseas Vietnamese, and the support of international friends, achieved significant milestones. All 15 socio-economic development targets were met or exceeded, making Viet Nam a standout performer with a GDP growth of 7.09%. Foreign direct investment reached USD 38.23 billion, trade turnover hit USD 786 billion, and the country welcomed 17.6 million international tourists, a 40% increase compared to 2023. Social welfare and security were prioritized, and national defense and public order were maintained.

Regarding Viet Nam-India relations, the Ambassador expressed joy over the continued strengthening and promotion of bilateral ties. A highlight in 2024 was the state visit to India by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (July 2024), along with numerous visits by Party and State leaders, further energizing cooperation in all areas. Diplomacy, defense, and security remained key pillars of the relationship, with bilateral trade reaching around USD 15 billion. Notably, increased aviation connectivity, with 67 direct flights now linking the two countries, played a pivotal role in enhancing people-to-people exchanges and cultural and tourism exchanges. Indian tourist arrivals to Viet Nam in 2024 exceeded 500,000, and the Vietnamese community in India continues to grow.

The Ambassador commended the Vietnamese community in India for their solidarity, mutual support, and contributions to the Embassy’s efforts in fostering diplomatic and economic ties, enhancing Viet Nam’s image and reputation with local partners. He emphasized that 2025 holds special significance as Viet Nam prepares for a new era of growth, as defined by General Secretary To Lam. Additionally, 2025 marks the anniversaries of several important national events. The Ambassador expressed his hope that the community would continue to support one another and maintain strong connections to the homeland, acting as a bridge for Viet Nam-India friendship.

In the vibrant and joyous atmosphere of the New Year celebration, attendees immersed themselves in a traditional Tet space adorned with peach blossoms, yellow apricot flowers, and lanterns. They enjoyed traditional Tet dishes prepared by Embassy staff and participated in various cultural performances, including a graceful ao dai dance and the choral performance of “Ngay Tet que em.” The Community Tet – Homeland Spring 2025 celebration was filled with warmth, excitement, and meaningful cultural exchanges, deepening the love for the homeland among expatriates.
