On September 26, 2024, within the framework of Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) 2024 (from September 25-29, 2024), the Vietnamese Embassy in India organized a program to promote Vietnamese tourism in Greater Noida city, Uttar Pradesh state, India. Attending the program were the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Khadi Fabrics and Handicrafts, Sericulture, Handloom and Textiles along with guests from the Uttar Pradesh state government, Chairman of the Exhibition Steering Committee. and 70 travel businesses of Uttar Pradesh state and a number of travel and service businesses in Vietnam including Vietravel, Vietjet Air, Vietnam Airlines, Vinpearl.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to India, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai highly appreciated the interest and participation of Indian and Vietnamese businesses at the event. The Ambassador emphasized that promoting tourism is a priority in the economic diplomacy work of the Vietnamese Embassy in India; Vietnam has many landscapes and cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, cultural works that interact with ancient Indian culture, and are highlights that attract tourists.The Ambassador expressed his joy at the fact that Vietnam is becoming a popular destination for Indian tourists with diverse types of tourism, from relaxation, weddings, conferences, golf, adventure… ; In 2023, India will be one of 10 markets sending tourists to Vietnam with nearly 400,000 tourists. In the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam welcomed 272,000 Indian tourists, an increase of 30% over the same period last year. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh state is an attractive destination for tourists and Buddhists from Vietnam. Once the historical, architectural and religious center of India, the state of Uttar Pradesh today also preserves rich cultural and religious heritage such as the Taj Mahal, the holy city of Varanasi on the Ganges, and many other historical sites. In particular, Uttar Pradesh is home to 2/4 of the Four Holy Lands of Buddhism: Sarnath Deer Park, where Buddha turned the first wheel of Dharma, and Kushinagar Kushinagar, where Buddha attained nirvana.
The Ambassador believes that with Vietnam’s convenient electronic visa issuance system and the increase in many direct flights between the two countries (about 65 flights/week currently), tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries will increase sharply in the near future. He hopes that tourism companies in the state of Uttar Pradesh will continue to value and increase the exploitation of opportunities from the Vietnamese market, and at the same time, Vietnamese tourism companies will attach more importance to the Indian market. The Ambassador believes that the number of Indian visitors to Vietnam will soon reach 1 million visitors in the near future.
At the event, the guests highly appreciated Vietnam, praised the dynamism of the country in general and the Embassy in particular, believing that this tourism event will make an important contribution to promoting tourism. between Uttar Pradesh and Vietnam, further strengthening the friendly relationship between the two countries. The Charge d’Affaires of the Ministry of Tourism of Uttar Pradesh introduced the Buddhist Journey, which includes sacred sites spread across Uttar Pradesh, where the enlightened Buddha lived, taught and entered Nirvana, inviting those who Vietnamese pilgrims and tourists come to explore and experience the essence of Buddhism.
