Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Nepal for the 2025–2028

On April 28, 2025, the Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Nepal for the 2025–2028 term took place solemnly with both in-person and online participation of overseas Vietnamese living, studying, and working in Nepal. Attending the Congress were Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of India concurrently accredited to Nepal and Bhutan, along with staff from the Embassy.

Ms. Vo Thi Kim Cuong, President of the Vietnamese Association in Nepal, presented the summary report of the Association’s activities. According to Ms. Kim Cuong, the Vietnamese community in Nepal is growing with over 300 members, including those who have come for marriage, study, religious practice, or business. Most community members have stabilized their lives and integrated well into the local society. Over the years, they have remained united and supported each other in overcoming difficulties, especially during natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, or the COVID-19 pandemic. These bonding activities have contributed to building a stable and developing Vietnamese community, preserving national cultural identity, maintaining ties with the homeland, and contributing in various ways to Vietnam’s development and to Vietnam–Nepal relations.

At the Congress, Ms. Kim Cuong and community members gave suggestions to improve the Association’s work in the coming time, such as: continuing to assist members in stabilizing their lives; identifying and nurturing positive individuals and younger generations to build a future leadership team for the Association; creating a Facebook page to update information and issue recommendations for Vietnamese visiting or living in Nepal; promoting policies and guidelines of the Party and State, and introducing Vietnamese culture in Nepal.

Speaking at the Congress, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai expressed his pleasure with the achievements of the Association in recent times, especially the spirit of mutual assistance and solidarity within the community. This spirit was most clearly demonstrated through activities that called on the Vietnamese community in Nepal to raise donations to support those severely affected by earthquakes and floods. The Ambassador praised the Pho 99 restaurant chain, run by Ms. Kim Cuong, for not only becoming a culinary symbol but also serving as a bridge for many Nepalese to learn about Vietnam.

The Ambassador affirmed the consistent policy of the Party and State in considering the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part and an important resource of the Vietnamese nation. Accordingly, the Embassy regards community affairs as a key task and always supports community members in strengthening their legal status, protecting legitimate rights, stabilizing life, developing, and integrating into the host society. The Ambassador also called on the community to continue fostering unity, supporting one another, preserving Vietnamese culture and language, and actively maintaining connections with the homeland, contributing to national development and promoting people-to-people, cultural, economic, and trade relations between Vietnam and Nepal.

With democracy and high responsibility, the Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Association in Nepal for the 2025–2028 term, consisting of two members, with Ms. Vo Thi Kim Cuong being re-elected by popular vote as President. The Congress also approved the Association’s Charter and its activity orientation for the new term.
