On the evening of December 10, 2024, the Embassy of Vietnam in India, in collaboration with the Office of the Defense Attaché of Vietnam in India, solemnly organized the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th Anniversary of the Vietnam All-People National Defense Festival at the Shangri-La Eros Hotel in New Delhi. The event was attended by Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indian Navy; Lieutenant General Vu Cuong Quyet, Director of the Institute for Defense Strategy under Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense; and more than 250 distinguished guests, including senior officers of the Indian Ministry of Defense, representatives of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassadors, Diplomatic staff, and Defense and Military Attachés from various countries in India.
In his welcome address, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai proudly affirmed that, over the past 80 years, the Vietnam People’s Army has always been a symbol of courage and persistent fighting spirit, a loyal and reliable force protecting the Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam, while actively contributing to global peace and stability. The Ambassador emphasized that defense cooperation is a key pillar of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India. He noted that the relationship between the two countries has been continuously strengthened and promoted in recent years, particularly in areas such as politics, defense, security, economy, trade, transportation, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The Ambassador expressed Vietnam’s desire to further enhance cooperation with India in the future in fields such as defense-security, science-technology, emerging technologies, nuclear energy, and cultural exchange.
In his remarks, Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai, Vietnam’s Defense Attaché to India, reviewed the history of the formation, combat, and development of the Vietnam People’s Army. He highlighted the strong bond between the Army and the people of Vietnam in the mission of protecting and building the nation. He also introduced the achievements and modernization process of the Vietnam People’s Army in the new era.
Representing the Indian Ministry of Defense, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indian Navy, stated that the celebration not only marked an important milestone in Vietnam’s history but also honored the profound and significant contributions of the Vietnam People’s Army to the country’s independence, security, and prosperity. He added that the resilience, bravery, and dedication of the Vietnam People’s Army have inspired armed forces worldwide, including the Indian military.
The celebration took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, featuring a variety of traditional Vietnamese and Indian dishes. Numerous publications showcasing the history and traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army were displayed alongside magazines promoting Vietnamese culture, tourism, and people at the reception area, attracting the interest of international friends.
The event provided an opportunity for international friends to gain a deeper understanding of the history and development of the Vietnam People’s Army. It also served as a chance to highlight and promote the image of the Vietnam People’s Army in the modern era—a symbol of discipline, bravery, resilience, responsibility, and sacrifice, making significant contributions to international missions and responsibilities.
