On May 12, at the headquarters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M) in New Delhi, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Thanh Hải paid a courtesy visit to Comrade Mariam Alexander Baby, the newly elected General Secretary of the CPI(M). During the meeting, Ambassador Nguyễn congratulated the CPI(M) on the successful organization of its 24th Party Congress held from April 2–6, 2025. On this occasion, he also presented a congratulatory letter from General Secretary Tô Lâm of the Communist Party of Vietnam, warmly congratulating Comrade M.A. Baby on his election as General Secretary of the CPI(M).
General Secretary M.A. Baby expressed his delight and sincere appreciation for the kind words from General Secretary Tô Lâm. He shared heartfelt sentiments and emphasized the strong historical bond between the Communist Parties of India and Vietnam. Recalling his close ties with Vietnam, Comrade Baby nostalgically recounted his student years when he joined street demonstrations in support of Vietnam, chanting slogans such as “My name, your name: Vietnam, Vietnam.” He affirmed that President Hồ Chí Minh has always been a great source of inspiration for generations of Indian people. He also highly praised Vietnam’s recent development achievements, describing the current moment as a “historic milestone” in the country’s development. He underlined that promoting good relations with Vietnam is a consistent and widely supported policy across India’s political spectrum.
Ambassador Nguyễn Thanh Hải reaffirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam values its traditional friendship with communist and leftist parties around the world, including the CPI(M). He highlighted the positive trajectory of relations between the two parties in recent times. During the meeting, the Ambassador also briefed Comrade M.A. Baby on Vietnam’s robust development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as the country’s major orientations in Party-building and national development in preparation for the 14th National Party Congress. These include restructuring central and local institutions and implementing strategic Party resolutions on science and technology and the private economy. The Ambassador proposed several measures to enhance Party-to-Party ties, such as increased information sharing and delegation exchanges—especially high-level visits—to contribute to the overall strengthening of the Vietnam–India comprehensive strategic partnership.
General Secretary M.A. Baby cordially shared his views on global and regional developments, as well as the current situation and key policies of the CPI(M). He expressed agreement with the Ambassador’s proposals for strengthening cooperation between the Communist Parties of Vietnam and India, and pledged to actively coordinate efforts to implement them in the time ahead.
