On the afternoon of September 14, 2024, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai, along with a delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in India, attended and signed the Condolence Book for Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), at the CPI-M Party headquarters in New Delhi. Comrade Yechury, born in 1952, passed away on September 12, 2024, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness, at the age of 72.
The visitation ceremony was held solemnly, with deep emotions shared by CPI-M Party members and many Indians who came to pay their respects. Comrade Sitaram Yechury was widely recognized as a distinguished and respected leader. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, referred to him as a “leading light of the Left,” known for bridging political divides and being an effective parliamentarian.
For Vietnam, Comrade Yechury was a trusted and loyal friend, ardently supporting Vietnam’s struggles for national liberation, unification, and development. He also played a key role in strengthening the relationship between the two nations. During the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai extended Vietnam’s deepest condolences to the CPI-M leaders, including Kerala State Chief Minister and CPI-M Politburo Member Pinarayi Vijayan.
In accordance with his wishes, Comrade Yechury’s body will be donated to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for medical research.
