Over the years, Viet Nam–India relations have developed steadily and consistently, becoming increasingly substantive and comprehensive. In particular, the establishment of the Viet Nam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 marked a qualitative advancement in bilateral ties.

Currently, the two countries maintain more than 20 bilateral cooperation mechanisms across various sectors and have signed numerous important agreements guiding the development of relations. Economic and trade cooperation has grown strongly, with bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 15–16 billion annually in recent years. India is now among Viet Nam’s top ten trading partners. Two-way investment continues to expand with nearly 500 projects, while significant potential remains for further breakthroughs in bilateral cooperation.

In particular, Viet Nam and India are rapidly expanding cooperation into new areas such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and satellite data. In addition, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties between the two countries have also witnessed strong growth. The two countries also maintain close coordination and mutual support at regional and international multilateral organizations and forums.

This State Visit to India by General Secretary, President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation also vividly demonstrates the foreign policy orientation of the Party and State of Viet Nam in the new era, as set forth in the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress: independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of external relations, and being a responsible member of the international community.
