On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025), the Resident Office of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Resident Office of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) in India jointly organized a commemorative ceremony in New Delhi. The event was held in a solemn and warm atmosphere, attended by all staff members of the Vietnamese Embassy and affiliated offices such as the Defense Attaché Office, the Trade Office, the Science and Technology Office, along with representatives of the Vietnamese community in India.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyễn Thanh Hải emphasized the special significance of the Revolutionary Press Day — a historic milestone marking the birth of Thanh Nien newspaper founded by leader Nguyễn Ái Quốc (later known as Hồ Chí Minh) on June 21, 1925, in Guangzhou (China), laying the foundation for the development of Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism.
The Ambassador highlighted the vital role of journalism in national liberation, reunification, the renewal process, international integration, and particularly the contributions of the VNA and VOV resident offices in India — one of the countries with the most dynamic and developed media landscapes in the world. He commended both agencies for fulfilling their roles as crucial information bridges between Vietnam and the host country, promptly and accurately reporting on current events in India. The Ambassador praised the resident correspondents for actively promoting Vietnam’s foreign policy, development achievements, and the image of the Vietnamese people and nation to Indian friends.
On this occasion, the Ambassador also acknowledged the contributions of embassy staff who have supported journalistic efforts by producing news articles, photos, and reports covering bilateral diplomatic activities, high-level visits, and Vietnamese cultural exchange events in India.
The ceremony also served as a moment for staff and correspondents to recall the proud tradition of Vietnam’s revolutionary press, the history and development of the VNA and VOV offices in India, and to rekindle a spirit of responsibility and innovation among journalists and media professionals in the digital era and in the new phase of Vietnam’s development.
In her remarks, Head of the VNA Resident Office in New Delhi, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thúy, and Mr. Phan Thanh Tùng, Head of the VOV Resident Office in India, expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Embassy, other representative offices, partners, and Indian friends for their consistent support in external information work.
Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thúy stated that over the past nearly 50 years, generations of VNA correspondents in New Delhi have overcome numerous difficulties, stayed closely connected to the field, and reported promptly, accurately, and vividly on India’s political, economic, social, and diplomatic developments, as well as those of South Asian countries. At the same time, they have actively promoted the image of Vietnam, its people, and its development achievements to regional audiences. Beyond journalistic reporting, the resident office has also played the role of a bridge of friendship, helping connect the Vietnamese community in India and supporting diplomatic, cultural, economic, and educational activities organized by the Embassy and Vietnam’s representative agencies.
Ms. Thúy emphasized that the past journey stands as vivid testimony to the dedication, professional courage, and patriotic spirit of VNA correspondents in India. In the context of globalization and digital transformation, the VNA team in New Delhi remains committed to upholding journalistic ethics, continuously learning, and innovating to fulfill the mission of revolutionary journalism in the new era, thereby contributing to the further strengthening of the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In his remarks, Mr. Phan Thanh Tùng, Head of the VOV Resident Office in India, said that since its establishment in February 2020, the VOV office has begun to make its mark and achieve accomplishments, contributing to the Voice of Vietnam’s communication mission and the overall bilateral relations between the two countries.
As the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to grow, the increasing demand for people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding requires more from Vietnam’s media representatives in India, including both the VNA and VOV offices. Information from the field must be accurate, timely, engaging, diverse, and serve as a bridge connecting Vietnamese and Indian businesses and people in deeper and more meaningful ways.
The ceremony concluded with a warm and friendly gathering between embassy staff and resident correspondents, reflecting a spirit of unity and camaraderie in fulfilling political missions, communication duties, and promoting the image of Vietnam in India.
