79th National Day of Viet Nam

On the evening of October 7, 2024, the Embassy of Vietnam in India solemnly held a ceremony to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the Embassy’s headquarters in New Delhi.


On the Indian side, Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony. Also in attendance were Doraisamy Raja, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India, and G. Devarajan, General Secretary of the All India Forward Bloc. The event was also attended by heads of missions from ASEAN countries and key partners of Vietnam, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, various ministries, government agencies, major corporations, and the Vietnamese community in India.


In his speech at the event, Ambassador Nguyễn Thanh Hải highlighted the historical significance of September 2, 1945, when President Hồ Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, ushering in a new era in the nation’s history. The Ambassador expressed his deep respect for generations of Vietnamese leaders and people who have overcome numerous difficulties and challenges to build a prosperous, strong, fair, and democratic Vietnam, with an increasingly prominent role and position in the region and the world.


The Ambassador emphasized the traditional relationship between Vietnam and India, which has been carefully nurtured by generations of leaders from both countries over many decades. He also expressed his delight at the increasingly strong and effective development between the two countries in various fields. The Ambassador reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment and desire to continue working closely with India to further strengthen and promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. The Ambassador mentioned recent high-level visits and exchanges, particularly the successful State visit of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính to India (July 30 – August 1, 2024) and the bilateral meeting between General Secretary, President Tô Lâm and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Future Summit in New York (September 23, 2024), which have provided strong momentum for the bilateral relationship in the coming period. He reiterated the determination of both governments to further promote trade and investment cooperation. The Ambassador expressed the desire to increase bilateral trade to USD 20 billion in the coming years and to increase the number of direct flights between the two countries from the current level of around 60 flights, thereby boosting trade and people-to-people exchanges. On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude for the timely and valuable support from the Indian government in helping Vietnam recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.


Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable achievements in nation-building and development since gaining independence. He praised the successes achieved within the framework of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, covering areas such as politics, economy, development, defense and security, energy, science and technology, culture and education, and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasized the cultural ties between the two countries that date back more than 2,000 years and expressed his pleasure at the sustainable development of the traditional India-Vietnam relationship, built on a foundation of solidarity, trust, deep understanding, and shared interests. The Minister welcomed the strong response to International Yoga Day in many provinces and cities in Vietnam, reflecting the growing connection between India and Vietnam. He affirmed that India values its relationship with Vietnam and considers Vietnam an important pillar in India’s Act East Policy. Concluding his speech, the Minister sincerely wished the government and people of Vietnam continued success on the path of building and developing the country towards greater prosperity, with an increasingly prominent role in the region and on the international stage.
