Secretary-General of All India Peace and Solidarity elected as President of World Peace Council for new term

Baoquocte.vn. On the afternoon of November 24th, in Hanoi, after 4 days of continuous work, the 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council elected a new Executive Committee that includes 40 members.

Accordingly, with absolute consensus, the Executive Committee of the new term has elected Mr. Pallab Sengupta – Secretary General of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization as the President of the World Peace Council for a new term starting from 2022.

World Peace Council launches new Executive Committee

At the same time, Athanasios Pafilis was elected Secretary-General of the World Peace Council by the Executive Committee, and Iraklis Tsavdaridis was elected Permanent Secretary of the World Peace Council.

The Executive Committee for the new term also elects personnel for 5 vice presidents representing the regions, including the American Peace Council (Americas), Vietnam Peace Commission (Asia-Pacific region), Association for the Protection of Peace, Solidarity and Democracy (Middle East), Angolan People’s Friendship and Solidarity League (Africa), Czech Peace Movement (Europe).

In addition to Athanasios Pafilis (Greece) and Iraklis Tsavdaridis (Greece), the Executive Committee also elected 11 more members of the Secretariat.

These members are from the Cuban People’s Friendship Institute (ICAP); Portuguese Peace & Cooperation Council (CPPC), Palestine Peace & Solidarity Committee, South African Peace Solidarity Action Organization, International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) Japan, Brazilian Center for Defense of Solidarity and Peace, American Peace Council, Nepal Peace, and Solidarity Council, Cyprus Peace Council, Syrian National Peace Council, Sudan Peace, and Solidarity Council. Thus, the Secretariat for the new term consists of 13 members.

Pallab Sengupta, the new President of the World Peace Council, was born on January 14, 1950, in India. Having a special affection for Vietnam, Pallab Sengupta supported Vietnam throughout his years of revolutionary activism, in any capacity.

In particular, during his time as the leader of international student and youth organizations, Mr. Pallab Sengupta made many efforts to help the cause of protecting and building the country of the Vietnamese people.

As the General Secretary of All India Solidarity (AIPSO), Mr. Pallab Sengupta has devoted many activities of AIPSO towards Vietnam, such as: the two sides have coordinated to organize many solidarity and friendship activities, enhance people-to-people understanding of Vietnam-India relations, closely coordinate within the framework of multilateral conferences and people’s networks.
